I was recently speaking with a friend of mine who has been studying the gaelic language and it made me think about a long overdue tattoo I've been wanting to get; "Bound by Honor". To be tattooed under the tree of life tattoo I have for my father who passed years ago.

I also had another question. I wanted to get "I fly by my own wings" tattooed on my forearm but i'm not sure if my friend has it right. This is what he told me, "Eitlím le mo sciatháin féin". If I could get some clarification and confirmation, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks,
J Cochran

Eitlím le mo sciatháin féin looks fine for "I fly by my own wings". :good:

For "Bound by Honor", perhaps:

Faoi bhrí onóra "Bound by Honor" literally "under power of honour"

(However, it kind of feels like it needs mo "my" in Irish: Faoi bhrí m'onóra "Bound by My Honor" - await other opinions on that.)

In any case, wait for correction or confirmation ...

Thank you so much for the quick response! I really appreciate the explanation behind everything as well. Thank you so much. I'll keep my eyes out for confirmation.

I can confirm this too.

I think it works just as well with or without mo (m'onóra). You could also go with faoi chumas onóra (Under power/influence of honour).
