Manchán got a lot of stick from the community for not going to many places where Irish would be, but I feel it represents Ireland well on the whole after all the Gaeltacht represents, what? 2% of the population? It was only right he spent little time there in my opinion.

What was his aim anyway? I mean, really? To show that nobody speaks Irish outside the Gaeltacht and that the Gaeltacht people don't speak properly... (that's what it looks like anyway)

But you could also give evidence on the contrary if you prepare your programme by finding the places and the people you're going to see during the programme. Then you could give evidence Irish is spoken everywhere as well, once you know where the Irish speakers are. I guess you could even give evidence Polish is spoken everywhere in Ireland, if you know in advance who you're going to see.

I think its an interesting experiment, but confirming what we all knew, there is little Irish in everyday places around the country.

A friend of mine said, after seeing that programme, that it would be interesting if somebody carried out a similar experiment with Maths. The results would probably be significantly worse so should Maths be scrapped or should we just try to make a better job of passing on the skills to each generation?
