There is no 'correct' or 'accepted' way to write the name in Irish.

Both variations exist today:

Modern Irish: Conchúr
Old Irish: Conchob(h)ar

If you are asking which is the most common spelling variation, I would think that Conchúr would be the most common; though, both are recognisable.

3ú lá de (mhí an) Mhárta 2014 * 3rd of March 2014

Conventionally, the shorthand use -ú in 3ú is written above the 3 in Irish, just like the -rd in 3rd is written above the 3 in English.

The name Conchobar/Conchúr is unusual in Irish, as the spelling of the word does not reflect how it is actually pronounced in modern Irish. Its pronounced more like Cruthóir, whereas, you'd expect conúr, with the -ch- báite.

Wait for more input

Just to verify that it is Irish you want and not Scottish Gaelic? Secondly, obviously it is entirely your choice so please excuse the question, but a tattoo in a different language won't look like Connor so be certain that that's what you want instead of a tattoo that is obviously your own Connor.

That's a good point.

Shure, what does it matter? -isn't Welsh Gaelic the same as what's spoken in Ireland?

Top o' de marnan!
