I'm guessing that Kenny's have kept a few copies as they have the storage space to keep backlisted stock. Apparently Amazon and the others have an automatic programmed increase in the price of a book when according to their system, it has become rare.

Personally, I would buy the one for 88 cents. It's the hardcover edition and the condition is listed as "very good".

As WFM mentioned, De Bhaldraithe is the complement to FGB...English to Irish (FGB is Irish to English). I find both to be useful. I especially find Baldy to be useful when I'm trying to find a suitable Irish idiom for an English idiom.

That said, as I said above, Baldy is no longer in print. If you want a copy, you'll have to keep an eye on used book listings.

Thanks lads, I knew there was an accompanying English- Irish dictionary to FGB, but I didn't know it was de Bhaldraithe's.

That's odd them being out of print, I thought I spotted a few of them flying around.

You're welcome! I'm also very surprised that it's out of print. Every serious learner needs both Ó Dónaill's and De Bhaldraithe's Dictionary – and Dineen's Dictionary, eventually.

Best bet on most Irish books, if you can't get to Antiquarian booksellers in Ireland, is ABE:

So I just placed an order for a copy from the Book Depository, an abrupt zig-zag for my budget, but I've rationalized it as the same money getting spent twice, as I just got refunded by an eBay seller. I've been experiencing a weird run of used book and eBay sellers turning out not to have the item they had listed to sell though, so I half-fear that the listing will turn out to be a computer error or some other manifestation of this weird streak of bad luck.

Go n-éirí liom! <= does that work? In English, "Good luck to me!" would be kind of a joking twist of usage, right?

Updates:
1) This morning I get an email from the Book Depository telling me my copy de Bhaldraith had been dispatched.
2) I idly clicked back to the book's page on the Book Depository, and the book was once again was listed as unavailable. so I checked Amazon's listing from Kenny's (and there was one more seller I don't recall), but nobody is selling these $20 new copies anymore. Apparently (or at least hopefully) a number of us grabbed one while we could!

De Bhaldraithe's English-Irish Dictionary appears to have been reprinted this year. This is printed amid the copyright info on the fresh clean paperback copy I received today:

Check that out! Is that where you got yours?

There's a bunch of sellers on Amazon now too. I would swear that a couple of months ago, it was really hard to find. Has it come back into print, and if so why don't any Irish booksellers but Kenny's sell it?

The raving bibliophile is mystified.

There have been sellers on Amazon for a while, but they've been charging ridiculous prices (I think one person was asking $600!). If you can find it anywhere for a reasonable price, snap it up!

easons.com or easons.ie or http://www.easonschoolbooks.com/categor ... ence/Irish
in the searchbox type in Foclóir and you will have a choice of the dictionaries at a good price
