Hi all,

Are you familiar with the card game "Go Fish"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_Fish

Could anyone translate the following into Irish within the context of this game?

"Do you have any fives?" (speaker is addressing just one person).

Míle buíochas!

There are two alternate ways to say that when playing cards (in some cases, Irish has alternate ways to pluralize words):

An bhfuil chúig ar bith agat?
An bfhuil cúigeanna ar bith agat?

In case you want more info on terminology used in Irish for playing cards, here's a link to a thread from a while back with links to download documents which I created (in Word and pdf format), structured with some general card terminology first, then a set of terminology for playing poker and another set for playing bridge (also useful for spades, hearts, and many other games). Among other things, you'll see there the way(s) to describe each card or type of card.

I just checked the links which I posted there, and they are still working well.

Hi Mary, not sure where you are based, but Foras na Gaeilge have packs of cards free of charge with all the Irish terms on them.

I was never good at card games. But "go fish" sounds familiar. I think we called it something else in Irish, I can't remember what.

I would say too - An bhfuil cúig/eanna ad/agat?

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.
