Dia daoibh a chairde.

Bhí mé ag cleachtadh na briathra neamhrialta agus rinne mé cúpla botún. Úsáidim "Basic Irish" le Nancy Stenson. Deir an leabhar "Make subordinate clauses of the following sentences by placing them after deir sé. Remember that go must precede each verb."maith go leor mar sin. Scríobh mé cúpla ceann.

Deir sé gur tháinig go leor daoine aréir.

Ach ansin tháinig mé ar constaic.

Deir sé gur ndúirt tú an freagra ceart.

Shíl mé go n-úsáideann tú an focal "gur" san aimsir chaite. Or is it because these are irreg verbs? I have seen a patern that irreg verbs in the past tense that dont use gur tend to use "an" in their question form, has that anything to do with it?

'maith agaibh aríst.

You're right - it's because of the irregular verbs. There's 6 in the past tenese (bí, téigh, déan, feic, abair, faigh) that use the present tense particles, and thus every thing else for the present as well.

Ex: Cá raibh tú instead of Cár raibh tú

In native (ie. Gaeltacht Irish) there may be some differences.
Examples in Donegal Irish:

gur úrt (Standard go ndúirt)
go dtearn/dtearr (stand. go ndearna)
go dtug (stand. gur thug)
go dtáinig (stand. gur tháinig)
go dteachaigh (stand. go ndeachaigh)

the other verbs are more or less the same ones as in standard Irish.

go raibh maith agaibh a leaideanna. It's interesting to see the different versions in the various dialects also. Even if I don't end up using them at least I won't be caught off guard if I come across them.

I think 'go dtáinig' is used elsewhere too. Then there's 'go gcuala' ( Caighdeán -'gur chuala').

Yeah, in Kerry at least you hear "go gcuaig" and that. The past particles have become quite rare.
