In response to the question , were you swimming (over the summer), I heard this answer

Ní chuiris irid agus méar na gcos sa uisce

I cant find any word Irid, anyone have any idea for what word I might have heard.

This makes me think of the saying, "if you don't know how to spell it, look it up in the dictionary," which has always seemed weird to me in the first place. It seems like it'd be especially difficult to do this in Irish, what with all the vowels that can sound so similar!

haha You're probably right! It's just that beginner thing I guess, and it seems like it would be more difficult, while it probably isn't all that bad.

I have been known to look "rithim" up in my Irish dictionary to find out how to spell "rhythm" in English (because I never can remember how to spell it in English, and it's so darned easy in Irish!)

And yes...I did look up "rithim" just now...

Redwolf wrote a really good article (step by step guide) for beginners on how to look up a word in an Irish dictionary, mind you you'll probably be to the moon and back with all the steps involved ;) :)
