I am getting so frustrated with my browser situation!

If I use IE, I can no longer use alt codes for fadas...they just don't work (BTW, they still work fine in Word and Excel)

If I use Chrome, the alt codes work, but it's started giving me other problems. Specifically, when I'm trying to type here, it doesn't keep up with my typing speed, so I can't see what I'm typing as I type it. It also seems really flakey with TG4...when I'm watching an archived show, it will tend to stall after a minute or so.

I'm curious as to whether other people have trouble with alt codes in IE? This is something that just started happening a few months ago, by the way...I've been able to use them with no problem before.

In the meantime, can someone suggest another browser for me to try? I'm getting very tired of having to type anything I want to say in Irish in Word and having to copy it (and no...I don't want to try a different keyboard layout. I did that on my netbook, because it didn't have a number pad, and it caused no end of grief. I'm happy with my alt codes, which I can touch type...when they're working, that is!).

P.S. Yes, I've run multiple virus scans

I use Mozilla Firefox (which is free), and have had no problems. I dislike IE, and only use it for a couple of sites at my company which are designed to work only with IE. One thing I especially like about Mozilla is that you can program it the way you want, and it will actually do what you say. IE ignores some instructions, even though it has a way for you to give them.

I downloaded Firefox, and that seems to have fixed the alt code and typing issues. TG4 is still being pissy, but that may just be TG4. I'll try it later in IE and see.

Firefox was my favourite for years. But then suddenly it wouldn't play video for me anymore (youtube etc). I downloaded new versions of it but it didn't help. Now I use Chrome, and so far very happy with it. Safari is good too.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

I thought Chrome was going to be a good bet, but it's the one that gave me the typing delay problem here.

Firefox still isn't proving very satisfactory from a video-watching standpoint, at least if TG4 is any indication. I haven't tried YouTube yet.

Does Safari work on non-Apple computers?

I don't have any video-watching problems with Firefox, but I do have a new, very fast computer (my old one was on its last legs).

Chrome is quite resource-intensive (for a browser). The issue you're having may stem from this fact. Do you have an older computer?

My computer is actually quite new. I bought it early last year, and it's blazing fast.

Any problems watching videos are more likely related to your Flash player than your browser, I think. It might help to install the latest version of Flash at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ .

For slow typing in Chrome, you might find this helpful: http://productforums.google.com/forum/# ... k-Nz6tmVek The other symptom you described sounds consistent with that being a problem.

I googled "internet explorer alt codes not working" and I do see lots of pages describing slightly different problems with slightly different solutions. Does the problem depend on whether you use the right Alt key or the left Alt key? Are you using plain vanilla US locale and US keyboard layout, or have you made any other changes?
