GU and GC are two dialects of Irish.

GU = Gaeilg Uladh - Gaeilge Uladh - Ulster Irish
GC = Gaeilge Chonnacht - Connacht Irish

If you click on the 'Board Index' up towards the top left of this page, you will see the last set of items is 'Canúintí - Dialects'. These refer to two of them.

Those meanings are as Saoirse has explained above. :good: Saoirse has also posted some useful links relating to raising kids in Irish in our Useful Links section.

I've tried to keep the more useful words at the top of the list I gave you. I think naíonán is the official word for "baby, infant". Leanbh and páiste get equal work out for "child".

Báibín also means "baby" and is derived from báb an older word for "baby, babe". A bábóg, on the other hand, is a "doll".

 It's going to be slower than I'd like. I'll read one chapter at a time. Resisting the temptation to grab a dictionary for every word I don't understand, but it's hard to find the right balance of how often to do that without destroying the flow for me.
