ORIGINAL IN GAEILGE

Níos mó ceisteanna ná freagraí

An tseachtain seo caite, d’fhógair an tAire Gaeltachta, Donncha Mac Fhionnlaoich, An Clár Tacaíochta Teaghlaigh agus Próiseas Pleanála Teanga sa Ghaeltacht.

Is í an mhíchinnteacht an rud is mó a eascraíonn as - ní soiléir do dhuine ar bith cad is brí leis na téarmaí seo agus cén toradh a bheas orthu sa deireadh.

Coinnímis aigne oscailte, áfach, tá seans ann go bhfásfaidh rudaí fiúntacha amach astu.

Ach tá go leor ceisteanna ann, mar shampla, cén fáth a mbeidh níos mó tacaíochta ar fáil do theaghlaigh atá ag tógáil páistí le Gaeilge in áiteanna ar leith sa tír ach ní bheidh in áiteanna eile? An bhfuil sé sin cothrom?

An bhfuil ciall leis sin? Cén fáth a bhfuil ceantair Ghaeltachta atá i gcatagóir ‘C’ le meascadh le ceantair i gcatagóir ‘A’?

Cén toradh a bheas air sin? Tuigtear go mbeidh sainmhíniú nua ar cad is Gaeltacht ann sa Bhille Gaeltachta nua, is é sin gur rud ‘teangeolaíochta’ seachas ‘tíreolaíochta’ a bheas ann? - ach cad is ciall leis sin?

An sofhriotal é sin do ‘díchoimisiúnú’ na nGaeltachtaí?

More questions than answers

An tseachtain seo caite, d’fhógair an tAire Gaeltachta, Donncha Mac Fhionnlaoich, An Clár Tacaíochta Teaghlaigh agus Próiseas Pleanála Teanga sa Ghaeltacht.
Last week the Minister for the Irish Speaking District, Donncha Mac Fhionnlaoich, announced the Programme for Household Support and the Language Planning Process in the Irish Speaking District.

Is í an mhíchinnteacht an rud is mó a eascraíonn as - ní soiléir do dhuine ar bith cad is brí leis na téarmaí seo agus cén toradh a bheas orthu sa deireadh.
The biggest thing that springs from it is uncertainty - the meaning of these terms and what consequences they will have in the end is clear to no-one.

Coinnímis aigne oscailte, áfach, tá seans ann go bhfásfaidh rudaí fiúntacha amach astu.
Let us keep an open mind, however; there is a chance that worthwhile things will grow from them.

Ach tá go leor ceisteanna ann, mar shampla, cén fáth a mbeidh níos mó tacaíochta ar fáil do theaghlaigh atá ag tógáil páistí le Gaeilge in áiteanna ar leith sa tír ach ní bheidh in áiteanna eile? An bhfuil sé sin cothrom?
But there are many questions, for example, why will there be more support available for households rearing children through Irish in certain places in the country but not in other places? Is that fair?

An bhfuil ciall leis sin? Cén fáth a bhfuil ceantair Ghaeltachta atá i gcatagóir ‘C’ le meascadh le ceantair i gcatagóir ‘A’?
Is there any sense to this? Why are Irish speaking districts which are in category ‘C’ to be mixed with districts in category ‘A’?

Cén toradh a bheas air sin? Tuigtear go mbeidh sainmhíniú nua ar cad is Gaeltacht ann sa Bhille Gaeltachta nua, is é sin gur rud ‘teangeolaíochta’ seachas ‘tíreolaíochta’ a bheas ann? - ach cad is ciall leis sin?
What will be the result of this. It is understood that there will be a new definition given of what an Irish speaking district is in the new Irish Speaking District Bill, that is that it will be a ‘linguistic’ rather than a ‘geographical’ thing - but what does this mean?

An sofhriotal é sin do ‘díchoimisiúnú’ na nGaeltachtaí?
Is that a euphemism for the ‘decommissioning’ of the Irish speaking districts?

A BETTER LOOK AT THE SENTENCES

NOTE: the letters C and A in Irish are pronounced ‘KAY’ and ‘AW’. I did not pronounce them this way in the soundfile... this is a personal choice as I heard both Irish and English from a young age and these letters are said as I most often experienced them.
Also I pronounce ‘sa bhille’ as ‘sa mbille’ etc. as this is the way I heard and hear it.
‘sa bhille’ can of course be pronounced ‘sah villeh’ instead of ‘sa milleh’ if you wish.

You have put a huge amount of work into that, Braoin. Thanks a million. I can't help but think that you are calling the Minister a bit of an ass.....!
