Fáilte

Fáilte go dtí Foclóir Nua Béarla-Gaeilge Fhoras na Gaeilge, a seoladh ar 24 Eanáir 2013. Tá an foclóir ar fáil saor in aisce agus in oiriúint do ríomhairí deisce agus do ghléasanna móibíleacha araon.

Is éard a chuirimid romhainn ná cumhdach cuimsitheach a dhéanamh ar gach iontráil, leis na leaganacha Gaeilge a fhreagraíonn don Bhéarla á gcur i gcomhthéacs le samplaí. Tá comhaid fuaime agus eolas gramadaí ag dul leis an ábhar Gaeilge san fhoclóir chomh maith.

Amach anseo

Tá an foclóir á fhoilsiú ar bhonn céimnithe agus ní bheidh iomlán an ábhair ar líne go deireadh 2014. Is éard atá sna hiontrálacha a foilsíodh in Eanáir 2013 ná 30% d’ábhar deiridh an fhoclóra; mar sin féin, cumhdaíonn an raon seo timpeall 80% de ghnáthúsáid an Bhéarla. Foilseofear leaganacha méadaithe agus leasaithe den fhoclóir go rialta in 2013 agus 2014. Nuair a bheidh an t-ábhar ar fad foilsithe ar líne ag deireadh 2014, ullmhófar leagan clóite in 2015.

Welcome

Welcome to Foras na Gaeilge's New English-Irish Dictionary, launched on 24 January 2013. The dictionary is available free of charge, and has been adapted to work both on desktop computers and on mobile devices.

Our aim is to provide comprehensive coverage for every entry, illustrated with examples to give context to the Irish equivalents. As well as translations for the English content, the dictionary also contains sound files and grammatical information.

What's next?

The dictionary is being published on a phased basis, and the full content won’t be online until end-2014. The entries published in January 2013 consist of approximately 30% of the eventual content, however this range covers approximately 80% of general English usage. Enlarged and enhanced versions of the dictionary will be published online at regular intervals during 2013 and 2014. Once all of the dictionary material has been published online at the end of 2014, work will begin on the preparation of a printed edition in 2015.
