Friends,

I am new here and have a question with a lengthy answer about pronunciation for the folk song Fionnguala. I have a basic understanding, but I was instructed by someone that ignored all of their own written rules about it. In addition to that, I understand that this is a Scottish folk song and he was coming at it from an Irish perspective.

I will be recording this piece soon and want to make sure I am doing the language justice.

To pare down the phrases, they are as follows (and I am grabbing this from the music, so please forgive any mistakes in punctuation as it is quite tiny...):

1. Thuirt an gobha fuirighidh mi 'S thuirt an gobha faibhaidh me 'S thuirt an gobha leis an othail A bh'air an dórus an tsábhail Gu rachadh e a shuirghe

2. Bheirinn fead air ful[a]mairean Bheirinn fead air fal[a]mairean Liuthannan beaga na mara Bheireamaid greis air an tarrainn Na maireadh na duirgh dhuinn

3. S'eilean nam bothan a bh'aig Fionnghuala

4. Cha d'thuirt an dadan a' seo - there is more, but it is repetition

I know this is a tall order, but I hope there is a fellow, passionate Fionnguala speaker available to assist me in making sure my pronunciation of the language isn't mere butchery instead. Cheers,

Matthew from Missouri

Of course I looked further back in the history and found a different thread. I don't see a place that I can delete my post. I apologize for the double post.
