Hi. I am stumped by this word - Fhlairheas.
It appears in a song sung by Clannad long ago, Gaoth Barra na dTonn.
So I am supposing it is a Donegal word, maybe. But I cannot find a translation for it anywhere, except Google translate, that gives 'abundance'.
Is anybody able to shed any light on this at all please.

Well if it is fláirtheas with a t, then that would be a way of pronouncing foláirtheas, which would be an abstract noun formed from foláir.

'(aon) Fhlairheas' is a typo. It should be (aon) Fhlaitheas - '(any/no) Heaven'. According to the dictionaries it's only the plural of 'flaitheas' - 'na flaithis' - that means 'heaven', but I came across this, published in An Claideamh Soluis in 1914:


... Saoghal ana bhreagh is eadh an saoghal so. Dá mbeadh sé aon phioc níosa bhreaghtha is ar éigin a bheadh aon dúil ins na Flaitheasaibh ag cuid againn. Bheadh Flaitheas a bhfus againn agus ní bheimis ag cuardach ar chonus aon Fhlaitheas eile do bhaint amach.

Yes, of course it is flaitheas.
Flaitheas Dé is often found in the singular. Flaitheas also means "rule, dominion" as well as "heaven".
