Dia daoibh,
I have been sifting the internet in search of a valid source for this information but cannot confirm on any site or article. What is the true name for the old Gaelic festival "Imbolc" or "Imbolg"?Any answer would be greatly appreciated.
GRMA,

I think "Imbolc" is an older spelling. I prefer to use "Imbolg", and the meaning is then clear too. As in modern Irish "i mbolg" means "in a belly". So the festival name is a reference to animals being pregnant in the Spring. New beginnings. The B is silent.
