Dia daoibh,
I am looking for some good Shan-nós songs to practice. I have never done this so tunes
that are popular might help (since there is likely to be media about to help). That aside, any songs that you love regardless of popularity I would like to hear as well.

Is there a site that has a collection or a book of songs that might be useful? Any bit helps.

Thank you,
Mary

Here's one sean-nós singer who I think is important - Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin. Very sadly he was killed in a car accident in Dún Chaoin in 1991, but you can listen to some of the songs he recorded on his CD Bruach na Carraige Báine on YouTube (at Oíche na nAmhrán, where you can find other singers as well).
Here's a recording of him singing 'A Ógánaigh an Chúil Chraobhaigh', though unfortunately it has been posted up as 'Táim sinte ar do thuama'

Here are the words and the translation into English -

Thank you for the replies, I like a few in the top ten list, and that was a beautiful melody from Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin. This gets me a few options for selecting a song to learn. Thank you!

Here's Máire Ní Chéileachair singing it - with the words coming up on the screen as she's singing them, which of course is very useful. It's a great pity that you don't get that very often.

As she explains at the beginning, this song seems to be an Irish adaptation of the traditional English folksong 'The Unquiet Grave', which in that respect is quite unusual.
