How to spell Ayda in Irish???

"Ayda" in Turkish would be pronounced "eye-dah", and this is hard to transcribe in Irish, except if you use two words ("y" is a slender sound and "d" is a broad one).

But it looks weird. How would you transcribe "Vladimir" in Thai, or "Zhang" in Icelandic?...

As for languages spelling names in their own orthography, it's done all the time, isn't it? At least I see it in Japanese where "Vladimir" is radami-ru （ラダミール）. But Chinese names would take on the pronunciation of the character in Japanese.

Éada would be pronounced AY-duh.

From what I've read in the previous comments, it seems that

Adhda (as Lugaidh suggested above)

would be a close approximation of Ayda..
I don't know right at the moment any other way to transliterate it.

I'm still trying to work out if that first syllable is meant to be pronounced to rhyme with "day" or with "eye." That's going to make a pretty big difference.

Redwolf > adh- is normally pronounced as -ay- in Donegal (radharc > rayrk). Radharc could be spelt réarc in Donegal (since r is always broad at the beginning of a word even before e, i, é, í).

It's pronounced like "eye" in Connachta and Munster.
