Tá "Duinnín Bleachtaire ar an Sceilg" le Biddy Jenkinson á léamh agam. In abairt amháin deir sí gur chuir sin feilc ar an nDuinníneach. An bhfuil fhios ag aoinne can is brí le ''feilc" An abairt iomlán : Chuir éamh géar caointeach, agus iarmhéil a d'freagair é feilc ar an nDuinníneach.

Deirtear i dTeanglann gur ionnan ''feilc'' agus ''feirc". An bhrí a thugann siad ar ''feirc" is ea:

feirc, f. (gs. ~e, pl. ~eanna).1. (Of hat, cap) Peak; cock, tilt. ~ a chur ar hata, ar chaipín; hata, caipín, a chur ar ~, to tilt, cock, a hat, a cap. 2. Fringe. 3. (Of knife, dagger) Haft, hilt. Go ~, up to the hilt. Chuir sé an scian go ~ ann, he buried the knife in him. 4. Protruding part; paunch.

Ní dheineann sé seo ciall ar bith i gcomthéacs na h-abairte!

Seans go bhfuilim ag cur Béarlachais ar an nath i gceist, ach toisc go bhfuil an bhrí "tilt" leis an bhfocal (chomh maith leis na bríonna eile), n'fheadar an bhfuil i gceist "X was put on tilt" (de bharr na hiarmhéile chomh maith leis an éamh)?
