Hello all,

I joined this forum today to ask for a translation/grammar/pronunciation of a phrase that I intend to use for the rest of my life. I currently do not speak any Irish; my plan is to learn it once I have finished my college education.

The phrase in english is along the lines of "God be with the Hennessy bloodline" or "May God bless the Hennessy bloodline"

I would very much appreciate all of your help,

John S. Hennessy II

One possibility:

Beannacht Dé ar an gcineál Ó hAonghusa
The blessing of God on the O'Hennessy line

Do wait for further comments/corrections, though. I have a suspicion that the family name should be in the genitive case, but I'll let wiser people comment on that. In case you weren't aware of it, the surname Ó hAonghusa (the Irish form of the name Hennessy) means "descendant of Angus".

I think you're right, it should be in the genitive ....ar cineál Aonghusa...
I thought about ...ar cineál Uí... but would that not mean ...on the descendants of the descendants of....?
Although I suppose that is what's meant by "bloodline", a word I would normally associate with horses or dogs. :dog:

... ar chineál Uí Aonghusa
(no article because of the proper name, Uí = genitive of Ó)

or
... ar Mhuintir Aonghusa

Yes, I was fairly sure my ending was wrong, but I couldn't decide what seemed best. I think I confused myself when I added the unnecessary "the". Those look good.
