Dia daoibh!
Ceist agam freisin.

Maybe someone know about word ¨LEABHAR¨?
In one source I¨d learned plural of this word as LEABHAIR,
but yesterday in other book I met it in plural as LEABHARTHA!

Who can explain what is the difference?

GRMA

I think this discussion warrants it's own thread. But anyway:

Leabhair is the standardised (caighdeán oifigiúil) nominative plural form.

Leabhartha and leabharthacha are dialectal variations.

See the discussion on the plural cairéidí: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3514

Cian

Edited to correct error; singular = plural, shown in read above.

I'm familiar with Munster Irish/ Gaolainn na Mumhan (GM) and the Official Standard/an Caighdeán Oifigiúil (CO)

Leabharthacha? where do people say that? :)

In Ulster, I heard "leabharthaí" (genitive plural: leabharthach), and "leabhar" is feminine.

The standard isn't always clear on certain plural forms, sometimes, one book gives one plural form, and another books gives another one.
Where did you find "leabhartha" ? in Learning Irish ?

Chloistheá leabharthacha sa Rinn, is iomaí a chruthaítear iolra leis an iarmhír -acha.

Dh'áiríos Cíarraíoch ós na hoileánaibh ar chomhrá tráth agus an fhoirm a bhí aige ná leabhartha.

feictear dom gur iolra a bhaineann leis an Mumhain is ea é.

Learning Irish isn't standard Irish at all, it's Cois Fhairrge Irish. So the plurals etc you'll find in that books are those of Cois Fhairrge. But sometimes they don't spell them as they are pronounced, I wonder why, since anyway it's dialectal morphology. For instance, the author always spells -annaí plurals as -anna as in Standard Irish, and also -achaí as -acha, although the pronunciation clearly has an -í.
Dialectal plurals, spelt with their standard equivalents, but still pronounced with the dialectal pronunciation. I never managed to understand why certain things are spelt in a completely dialectal way in this book, and not certain other things. It would be more logical to spell everything dialectally, or nothing...
