Hello,

I'm a French Gaelic football player writing a PhD on live sports commentary and I'm currently writing about "your man" Michael O Muircheartaigh. There's one quote that I need help with, it's bilingual:

« He’s now gone past the centre of the field. Níl fhios agam cad as a thánaig sé. B’fhéidir piobaire sídh slí Gleann Molúra é. He’s dodging his way now, trying to get away from the maor »

An Irish friend of mine said it meant, "I don't know where he came from", and then something like "maybe he's a piper from Glenmalure". However, he couldn't identify what the reference was - whether it is a song, poem or legend.

Do you confirm that my friend's translation is accurate? And do you have any idea what "the voice of GAA" might be referring to? Thank you very much in advance for your help!

B’fhéidir piobaire sídh slí Gleann Molúra é : This translate as :Maybe he is a fairy piper from about Glen Molura.
This piper could enchant people with his playing so the person under the spell would not know or recall what happened while they were under the spell. This is what the pied piper of Hamelin also does with the mice as he leads them out of the town.
"The voice of the GAA" refers to Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh as he was known. He was the most popular GAA commentator for r almost 50 years in Ireland and well known for his bi-lingual commentary he would often break mid sentence from English to Irish and vice versa. He would bring anecdotes from the past meetings with the players and their relatives into the commentary and bring totally Off the Wall ideas to the commentary. He did not follow the script as all commentators are instructed to do.
