With the local and European elections around the corner, please use the opportunity to question candidates about Irish. For example, most of the endless bits of paper about all of the wonderful things they are going to do for our area/our country have not included a word of Irish on them. I am telling each candidate they are underestimating the number of people in our area who have an interest in the language. One candidate told me today that he didn't want to include Irish on his literature as people would then presume he is fluent. I told him that it was not a reasonable argument to suggest that you needed to be fluent before using a language - how could anyone ever become fluent if that were the case!
Anyway for those of you located in this part of the world, please use the opportunity to put Irish on the agenda for these people. Unless they hear from voters, they will not think it important.
Ní neart go cur le chéile!
