It's great to see my favourite comedy, An Crisis, is back on TG4. But I have a question about something Setanta says in the first episode: "Tá a fhios agam, feicim chomh hóg" (I know, I look so young).

"Feicim" implies that I am the one looking, not the one being looked at, or am I wrong about that? Is there a better way to say this in Irish?

(Personally, I prefer chím to feicim but that's besides the point.)

That sounds odd to me.

I would say -

Breathnaíonn mé óg.
or
Tá cumha an óige orm.

There are probably other ways to say it too.

tá typo ann, dar liom: scríobhfainn "cuma" (cumha le h = the feeling you have when you've lost something/someone, I don't know the English word)

Typo in my thread title too, which I only noticed when I saw Bríd write "chomh hóg" instead of my "comh óg" (which I've now fixed).

Isn't "feicim chomh hóg" simply "féachaim chomh hóg" with a bad pronunciation?
Btw how do they pronounce the name "Sétanta"?
It should be pronounced "Séadanta", because single -t- between vowels and at the end of words was pronounced like a d in Old Irish (see also that Étaín is now Éadaoin, cét is céad, etc).

And by the way, I see many Irish girls called Eimear etc, but in Old Irish it was Emer, pronounced [ev͂əɾ], and now it is still pronounced this way and then it should be spelt Eimhear. It shouldn't be spelt Eimear and it shouldn't be pronounced "ee-muhr"... but rather like the English word "ever" (with an Irish r, of course)

But still we wouldn't say that in my neck of the woods. "Breathnaíonn" is more common here.

To be honest, he could have said féachaim. I only heard it once, so I can't be sure I got that right.

I should point out that the mixing (and mixing-up) of languages is a big part of the humour in this series, so any mistakes are not necessarily down to bad acting or bad writing. Just look at the title "An Crisis."

To answer your question, Lughaidh, they use the English pronunciation of Setanta.
