Dia duit - Hello (literally God be with you) is as basic a phrase as you'll get in Irish. I thought it might be interesting to compile a list of phrases that people know with a religious element to them. :aingeal: Any suggestions?

Bail ó Dhia ort, a Shaoirse.

The days of the week all have religious meanings behind them.

Dé Domhnaigh = Day of the Lord (the words come from Latin, not the native Irish words)
Dé Luain = Day of Moon (again from Latin
Dé Máirt = Day of Mars (more Latin)
Dé Céadaoin = Day of first fasting (a traditional fasting day in Catholicism)
Déardaoin = Day between fasting (dé idir aoine or something like that)
Dé hAoine = Day of fasting (the main fasting day in Catholicism)
Dé Sathairn = Day of Saturn

I wrote that out from memory, so it might not be 100% right.

Le cúnamh Dé/ hopefully

You also say ''bail ó Dhia ort'' after giving someone a complement.

I should mention that I feel obliged to leave my typo in the title of this thread as Mick decided to flash a torch on it in another thread......
