I 1996, chuir Micheál Ó Conghaile scéal breá dá chuid, i nGaeilge, faoi bhráid Irish Writing Page an Sunday Tribune, ardán a raibh an-tábhachtach leis san am do scríobhneoirí úra. Níor cuireadh admháil féin chuige. An bhliain dar gcionn cuireadh aistriúchán Béarla den scéal chéanna isteach. Ní amháin gur foilsíodh an leagan Béarla, ach bronnadh dhá dhuais Hennessy ar an údar ag deireadh 1997, duais na litríochta agus duais scríbhneoir óg na bliana.

In 1996, Micheál Ó Conghaile submitted a fine story, in Irish, to The Sunday Tribune's Irish Writing Page, probably the most important platform for emerging Irish writers at the time. The submission was not even acknowledged. The following year, the same story was submitted again, this time in translation. Not only was it published, but it was given the Hennessy Literary Award for 1997 and the author was given the Hennessy Young Writer of the Year Award.

Tá sé seo ón réamhrá an leabhar dhátheangach, Bás in Éirinn. This is from the introduction of the bilingual book, Bás in Éirinn (May you die in Ireland). It is a collection of seven short stories by leading authors.
