Is there any group or body that tells TG4 how its public service could be improved?

Every time I see something interesting on tg4.ie, a few episodes have already been aired and they've already been removed from the website.

Léirmheas Leabhar is my latest discovery. A monthly review of what's newly published in Irish. Wow! ...and episodes 1 to 7 have already been deleted. In the past I've seen an interesting series or two, but to watch it you've to jump in at episode 9 with no idea what's going on. Useless. (And I'm talking about home-grown stuff here, not material that'd have third-party rights issues.)

So they're by far the main producer of TV programmes in Irish, they're a public service broadcaster, and they just air their programmes briefly and delete them? Does this not annoy anyone else?

I emailed them about subtitles before and got no answer. Is there any way to get a message to TG4 to suggest improvements?

Shows are usually archived for more than a few days. How frequently are you checking?

Some get 14 days, some get 36, the result is that there's one episode of the monthly Léirmheas Leabhar programme online and seven that've been deleted. For Éire na Nuachtscannán, there's two episodes online but the first four episodes have been deleted.

And then there are documentaries that look really interesting, but they've already been completely deleted. And dramas which are in a second or third season and the first seasons have been deleted. It's just such a waste. And Irish learners wishing there was something they could do with their Irish.

Does no one think TG4 should be asked to keep more of their home-made Irish programmes online so that learners have a choice of things to watch in Irish?

My guess is server space/cost. But, if you really want to get them yourself, youtube-dl works for TG4 (or it used to; I haven't tried it in a while).

Putting a copy of everything on youtube would be free, so server cost shouldn't be the reason.

youtube-dl does work, luckily, but you still have to spot the interesting stuff before it gets deleted. I could use it to download episodes 3 to 6 of Fir Bolg now, in case I might want to watch them in the future, but it's a six-part comedy-drama and I'll still be missing the first two episodes.

What an awful notion!
I had assumed it was like RTVE (radio televisión española lol) where you can basically watch everything ever at any time (great if you want to watch all thousand episodes of a certain drama, for example, as I can attest to)

It's funny until now I never considered how similar RTVE and RTE's initials and names are XD
radio televisión española
raidió teilifís éireann

Yes I think it's an enormous shame too. Over the years RTÉ have created a great number of fantastic programmes about the Gaeltacht and more generally Irish culture and history. You'd think that they might find a way of putting them on DVDs (with the accompanying books that would include transcriptions, annotations and explanations of the cultural references srl) and putting them on sale in their online shop. It would be a great way to showcase authentic Irish culture and they might even make some money by doing that - sadly what they have on sale is very limited. The BBC have done this - though unfortunately they've been forced to privatise the operation. Of course, it's not the first time I've made this remark on the forum.

They could've been even similarer :D. RTVE was set up as 'RTE' originally, but plucky RTÉ objected - "No way, José! Like hell, Miguel! - and threatened court action. Quizás  .

WIH is XD?

I would happily pay for the entire series of Ros na Rún on DVD.

XD is supposedly a sideways face of someone laughing so hard that their eyes are closed
an "emoji" but without any fancy animation
